Halo Hearts Foundation

Patients and their families are not alone in their struggle with unfortunate health care adversity. We are here to help you.

Our Mission

Halo Hearts Foundation is a non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization. Our mission is to serve and support patients and families suffering from health-related adversity. With a focus on younger patients and their families, our goal is to provide support to children and teens diagnosed and living with cardiac illnesses or cancer.

If you or a loved one is living with health challenges, especially cardiac and cancer-related ones, we want you to know you are not alone. Halo Hearts Foundation is here. We have the care, experience, and resources you need to help as you move forward in your journey.

Why Halo Hearts Foundation

Our founders, siblings Winnie and Peter Cha, wanted to create an organization dedicated to helping pediatric patients and their loved ones after living through their own illnesses at a young age.

Because of the care they received from their family and community during that time, they recognize how integral support is for suffering families to better handle the health conditions of their children — physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Winnie’s Story

Having suffered through a congenital heart defect at 6 years old, I realize the importance of family and community support. Leading up to diagnosis and following treatment for my condition, my parents were faced with the challenge of managing their careers, caring for my siblings and family, and supporting my care to allow me to heal.

Thanks to the support of my loved ones and the expertise of my medical team, I have enjoyed a healthy, happy childhood. Today, I’m a typical teenager who loves to play sports and is thrilled to have the opportunity to give back to other families in need of assistance and resources.

Peter’s Story

My cancer diagnosis at 10 years old was as much of a challenge for me as it was for my family. They were there for me every step of the way. Even when that meant making sacrifices in their lives by putting their own needs aside. They helped to ensure I could grow up to lead a meaningful and successful life. Today, I’m able to look forward to attending college at the Rhode Island School of Design and hopefully pursue a creative career in industrial design because of them.

Overcoming my cancer took more than 6 months and 70 days in the hospital, but I’m here. Now I’m eager to give back by helping similar families who are forced to endure the same adversity that my family and I experienced years ago.

Halo Hearts Foundation
in the News

Halo Hearts Foundation was happy to support the Hoffmeier family and Declan who has been battling a congenital heart defect since his birth. After multiple procedures and many nights in the hospital, he is thriving and is the cutest baby ever!

Halo Hearts Foundation was able to give back to the community with their inaugural gift to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.  Since Children’s Hospital was the institution that was able to provide me and my brother the opportunity to heal and survive, we felt it was only appropriate to help those patients and families who were similarly suffering from their own adversity. The $2,000 gift from the Halo Hearts Foundation was earmarked directly to support the families in the cardiac intensive care unit.  The funds were used to give the affected patients and families financial support during their adversity.  Specifically, meal gift cards, transportation support, hotel accommodations, and other incidentals for the affected families were paid for with the proceeds of our gift.
